GWERU — A 22-year-old Shurugwi man yesterday appeared before the Gweru Magistrates’ Court on attempted murder charges, after he assaulted his former wife who had questioned his sexual potency.

Oneti Musana of Chironde village, Chief Nhema, assaulted his former wife with a metal rod all over the body after she told him he could not satisfy her in bed.
The complainant — whose name was withheld as she was said to be in the intensive care following the assault — and the accused are said to have been embroiled in a longstanding dispute.
It is the State’s case that on July 13, the accused, who was customarily married to the complainant, visited her at her sleeping hut around midnight.
The accused wanted to discuss a pending case at the courts, which involved him and the complainant.
But the complainant is said to have told the accused that he should not disturb her and since he had failed to satisfy her sexually and should leave her alone.
This angered the accused who picked a metal rod and allegedly assaulted her all over the body, leading to her bleeding profusely. She was rushed to hospital.

The accused person was later arrested. The accused was remanded out of custody on $50 bail to August 14 and ordered to report to Tongogara Police Station during weekdays as part of his bail conditions.
