Trust offers Townsend sprinter scholarship

CARPENAUM Trust (CT) have confirmed a scholarship for 16-year-old Townsend Girls’ sprinter Yvonne Vanhuvaone who was recently honoured by the school for her tremendous efforts after securing 15 gold medals in all competitions for this year.

Yesterday, Joice Dube Bulawayo programmes officer for CT confirmed the scholarship for Vanhuvaone saying that her
talent earned her the scholarship.

“Yes, Yvonne is under Capernaum Trust scholarship and we are going to cater for her fees up to tertiary education — that is if she meets tertiary qualifications.

“Despite being an orphan; we were impressed by her talent. She is one of our stars, a good athlete,” Dube said.
CT was founded in Zimbabwe in 1996 by Strive and Tsitsi Masiyiwa to support orphans and vulnerable children by providing school fees from primary to tertiary education.

Townsend sports director Rugare Dhure also confirmed that Vanhuvaone’s talent had earned her a scholarship.
“Her fees is now paid by CT, I can simply say her talent earned her this scholarship,” Dhure said.

Vanhuvaone had previously told Southern Eye Sport that she was grateful for the sponsorship and added that she would use it to achieve her goals in life.

She was recently recognised as the most successful athlete Townsend had ever produced.
This year, she attained 15 gold, six silver and three bronze medals in all of her competitions to find herself honoured by Townsend High, receiving a special blazer.

She took part in the Zimbabwe National Youth Games in August and won two gold, one silver and one bronze, grabbed silver in the Cossassa games and bronze in the Southern African Seniors in Botswana in May and got bronze in the African Youth Championships in Nigeria in April.
