Bright Manyepa of Maketo village under Chief Mataruse had a heated argument with Tapinashe Hove over their ages.

Another villager, Christopher Sithole, was allegedly annoyed by the argument and intervened and attacked Manyepa by boxing him before striking him on the forehead with the unidentified object.

This emerged when Sithole appeared before Gweru regional magistrate Morgan Nemadire facing attempted murder charges.

Nemadire yesterday dropped the attempted murder charges and convicted Sithole on assault charges and sentenced him to seven years in prison, but suspended three years for five years.

It was the State’s case that on August 8 2011 at around 5pm, Manyepa was drinking beer at Bornface Mpofu’s homestead in the company of Hove and Nathan Mpofu.

Manyepa had an argument with Hove over their ages, which almost degenerated into a fist fight, but the two were restrained.

However, Sithole attacked Manyepa and struck him with an unidentified object on the forehead. Manyepa collapsed and was rushed to hospital.

A report was made to the police, leading to Sithole’s arrest.
