Prudence Mpofu of Njube, who operates at 6th Avenue and Herbert Chitepo Street in Bulawayo, pleaded not guilty to charges of fraud and was remanded in custody to December 9 by regional magistrate Gladmore Mushowe.

Charges against Mpofu are that on November 7 at around midday, Nobuhle Masuku approached her intending to convert her R2 400 into US dollars.

She handed over the cash to Mpofu, who told her to wait while she looked for loose bills across the road.

Mpofu took the money and disappeared leaving Masuku stranded.

Upon realising that she had been duped, Masuku made a police report leading to Mpofu’s arrest. Nothing was recovered.
