Soul Mutepaire (41) of New Quarters, Ross Camp in Bulawayo was not asked to plead to charges of forgery and fraud when he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Crispen Mberewere and was remanded in custody to January 30.

The court heard that on May 2 at 2pm, the complainant, Ellen Fortunate Moyo of Benevista, Bulawayo, went to the CID Scenes of Crime office and was assisted by Mutepaire to complete her mother-in-law’s police application forms.

After completing the forms, Mutepaire then allegedly received the $30 payment from Moyo for processing the clearance certificate. It is the State’s case that on May 4, Mutepaire handed a police clearance certificate, serial number 000906 dated May 3, to Moyo.

On May 6, Moyo took the clearance certificate to CID Criminal Records office at the CID Headquarters in Harare and they revealed to her that only clearance certificates serial number 009173 to 009232 were processed at the CID Criminal Records office in Harare and, therefore, the clearance certificate number 000906 was fake.

Police investigations led to Mutepaire’s arrest.
