IT TAKES a personal effort to get wealthy. Brian Tracy in the book 21 Secrets of Self-made Millionaire says 99% of wealthy people started broke or nearly broke.

Today we engage Epi Mabika (EM), a UK-based vocational strategist, motivational speaker, lifestyle coach and entrepreneur, as to how to attain wealth. She frankly says it’s possible. To her name is a book Success Gravity that she will launch in Zimbabwe on December 20.

She currently serves as vice-president of Toastmasters International Grosvenor Square Speakers in London, where she has won multiple speaking awards.

Her excerpts on developing a proper mindset took me away!

JN: Epi, as we speak someone is broke and believes that attaining substantial wealth is something farfetched. Are there a select few that should be rich?

EM: I believe in order acquire wealth you need a mindset that is capacitated for it so that it becomes sustainable. Wealth is not necessarily about riches and it’s certainly not for select few. For me it is about attaining a lifestyle that enables you to do what you love and love what you do, while simultaneously affording time to spend with loved ones, travel, pursue hobbies and personal interests and also make an impact in other people’s lives. This is available to all who are willing to go through the process and do what it takes to get there.

JN: Personal development training seems to be your area of strength, how does one pick themselves from their current level to being a peak performer? Take us step by step!

EM: The answers to that, can be found in my book, where I share principles of success and personal development:

  •  Goals: Through writing down clearly defined goals and setting up a plan of action to achieve them while also taking daily steps, one can set themselves on the pathway to success. You find that resources begin to line up to aid you towards your desired goals once you put your heart and mind towards success in any area of your life. This could be in the form of people, helpers of destiny, a career opportunity, finances or even a mentor. As the saying goes, when the student is ready, the teacher shows up.
  • Relationships: Networking, masterminding and collaborating with the right individuals could open doors to success in your life.
  •  Attitude: The right mindset for acquiring and sustaining the desired level of success. Henry Ford said: “The man who thinks he can and he who thinks he can’t, are both correct.”
  • Vision: Looking beyond what you see (present reality) in order to identify and realise a potential dream. There is also power in visualisation, which is the use of vision boards, pictures and affirmations about your dream to constantly immerse yourself in mental images of your desired outcome. The more you see a vision, the more you are able to move towards it and ultimately seize it.
  • Integrity: The backbone of success in an endeavour to walk in truth in your personal and business dealings. 97% of wealthy people attribute their level of success to the trait of integrity, according to a study done by Thomas J Stanley.
  • Time management: A great skill for goal attainment — short, medium and long-term goals with time deadlines. In addition to this is productivity — the art of accomplishing more in less time through leveraging available resources.
  • Your contribution towards making a positive impact in other people’s lives: It is the completed picture of success, when you are able move to a place of significance, where your wealth counts in the lives of others.

JN: How do you define true purpose in juxtaposition to misaligned intentions?

EM: Purpose is what you were created to do, the problem you were put on this earth to solve. You can usually identify it by the things which frustrate you that you like to change, or the causes you like to fight for.

JN: Your new book, Success Gravity, is not only a game changer but a life changer. What inspired you to bring such a masterpiece?

EM: After seeing how these principles have worked in my own life, I realised how important it is to document my discoveries in order to help others get to a place that they call “success” as well. I wanted to shorten the learning curve for someone else, and also inspire others to know that indeed ordinary people can do extraordinary things.

JN: Parting point: What’s the oxygen to keep the dream alive — the dream towards success and greatness?

EM: Belief in yourself that you can be, do, have anything that you desire in life, despite even a bad/ disadvantaged start. You can move beyond your limitations/excuses, and with determination and consistency, dreams really can come true — lasting wealth and success can truly be achieved.
