A 29-year-old man from Chiwundura yesterday appeared before a Gweru magistrate for allegedly raping and impregnating his 15-year-old sister.

According to the State’s case, the man had returned from a beer drink at a local bottle store last year and proceeded to where his sister was sleeping and allegedly raped her at knife point.
He threatened her with unspecified action if she divulged the rape to anyone.
Gweru magistrate Getrude Mayenyeso remanded the man in custody to January 23. Prosecutor Ernest Muzembi told the court that sometime between November and December last year, the man was staying with his sister, who was in Form 4.
The State alleges that the accused returned from a beer drink and found his sister sleeping in her bedroom hut.
He allegedly armed himself with a knife, undressed the complainant and raped her once.
The matter only came to light when the neighbours discovered that the girl was three months pregnant.

On being questioned, the girl revealed that her brother had impregnated her and narrated her alleged rape ordeal to them.
A report was made to the police, leading to the arrest of the brother.
