KWANGWARI Kwangwari emerged winner of the Mbada Golf Society competition at Harry Allen Golf Club on Sunday.
The competition had been scheduled for Bulawayo Country Club, but was later shifted to Harry Allen due to course conditions.
The Mbada Golf Society captain got a gross score of 81 playing off a handicap of 11 to net 70.
Kwangwari counted out Brian Sanangurai and Eglington Mwamlowe to win the 13th game of the season.
Sanangurai posted a gross score of 82 playing off a handicap of 12 while Mwamlowe got 83 playing off a handicap of 13. Kwangwari yesterday said he was happy to have won Sunday’s game.
“The game was OK. I think the condition of the course favoured golfers with a lower handicap. Golfers with a higher handicap seemed to struggle because the ground was wet,” he said.
Matabeleland Golf Association president Mufaro Chivonivoni was the winner of the gross score as he got a net score of 74 playing off a handicap of four to post a gross score of 78. Shepherd Huni had the most golf of the tournament after he got a gross score of 108 playing off a handicap of 13 getting a net score of 95.
Sanangurai won the nearest to the pins on holes number four and 17 while Linda Rubaya and Crispen Magosvongwe won the nearest to the pins on holes number seven and 12 respectively.Kwangwari got the longest drive in the men’s section while Lorraine Huwa won the longest drive in the women’s category.
Chenge Chivonivoni, Alexio Paradzai, Wishes Nyoni, Jebus Karuru, Wilfred Chinembiri, Moses Nzapu, Kim Hongkee, Tonderai Gavu and former Bulawayo Basketball Association spokesperson Charles Ndlovu were some of the golfers who participated in the competition that attracted 35 players.
The last two games of the competition were played at Tantebane Resort Adventurous Golf Club in Tsamaya 50km from the Ramaquabane borderpost in Botswana last month while the next will be held at Bulawayo Country Club on February 23.
