The hosts got their priceless goal through a hotly contested penalty converted by Taddy Etekiama on the 38th minute, but Dynamos, needing just a scoring draw to progress to the second round, had numerous chances — especially in the last 10 minutes — which they wasted.

Sithole fired wide from a metre out on 84th minute after intercepting a Ronald Chitiyo shot which appeared to be heading for the nets. The visitors had two shots saved point blank late into the match.

Dynamos have not won a Champions League away assignment in four years and their return to the DRC — the scene of their last triumph on the road in 2010 — could have been a good omen for the Zimbabwe champions, but they found the going tough.

Under Kalisto Pasuwa, Dynamos have drawn 2-2 against Liga MuÇulmana in Mozambique, lost 0-6 to Espérance of Tunisia, were beaten 0-1 by Lesotho Correctional Services, beaten 0-3 by CA Birzetin in Tunisia and drew 1-1 with Mochudi Centre Chiefs in Gaborone last month.

The Dynamos squad is expected in the country this morning.
