THE LATE Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) producer Gertrude Mugarisanwa, who committed suicide last Sunday, was buried at West Park Cemetery in Bulawayo yesterday morning. Prior to the burial, a church service attended by scores of people, including relatives, friends and ZBC workers, was held at the Anglican Cathedral in Barham Green.

Among those who attended the burial were the head of the ZBC Montrose Studio, Nonceba Mnkandla, and managers Edson Nyarambi and Sam Mkhithika.

Mugarisanwa did not leave a suicide note prompting speculations over reasons the cheerful and friendly producer decided to take her life.

Some of her former ZBC colleagues said Mugarisanwa had been frustrated at work. She was one of few remaining long serving employees at ZBC Montrose having joined the State broadcaster in the early 1980s and rising through the ranks to become a senior producer, a position she held until she took her own life.

At the time of her death, Mugarisanwa was producer of the Catch Them Young — a programme which featured young children showcasing their creativity.

Her supervisor Nyarambi, said Mugarisanwa had tendered her resignation from ZBC a few weeks ago, but rescinded the decision for unknown reasons.
