A MAN from Chief Chireya’s area in Gokwe allegedly raped his sister on several occasions before threatening to stab her if she ever reported the matter to anyone.

SILAS NKALA STAFF REPORTER This was heard by Gokwe resident magistrate Shepherd Mjanja on Tuesday when Benair Maringisanwa (27) appeared before him charged with rape. Maringisanwa was not asked to plead to the charge and was remanded in custody to May 13. The court heard that Maringisanwa and the alleged rape victim are siblings.

It is alleged that sometime in June 2013 at 2pm, the woman and her younger sister walked past Maringisanwa’s home.

He allegedly followed them and when he found them he allegedly grabbed the sister, lifted her into the bush where he raped her.

After the act he allegedly produced a knife and threatened to stab her if she ever reported the mater to anyone. It is alleged that the rape took place on several occasions and on February 27 the woman reported the abuse to her mother and a report was made to the police, leading to Maringisanwa’s arrest.

In another related case, Gift Mutikange (33) of Chief Chireya area in Gokwe North allegedly raped his niece before threatening to kill her with an Okapi knife if she reported the rape.

Mutikange was not asked to plead when he appeared before the same magistrate and was remanded in custody to May 13 while his trial date has been set for May 29.

The court heard that on March 21 at 8pm the complainant went to sleep in her bedroom hut. At 9pm Mutikange followed her and opened the door before holding her by her neck. He allegedly raped her after tearing her clothes.

He then produced an okapi knife and threatened to stab her with it if she ever told anyone about the rape. On March 23 the complainant reported the matter to her other uncle, leading to his arrest.
