ZNCC indaba set for Vic Falls

THE Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) will hold its annual congress at Victoria Falls next month.

Business executives are expected to use the platform to discuss the implementation of the government’s economic blueprint — the Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socioeconomic Transformation (ZimAsset).

ZimAsset is a five-year development programme extracted from the Zanu PF election manifesto that focuses on four pillars — namely food security and nutrition, social services and poverty reduction, infrastructure and utilities and value addition and eneficiation.

The congress comes at a time the local industry continues to reel under gripping liquidity challenges and low capacity utilisation in the manufacturing sector, which is estimated at below 50%.

It will run under the theme “Translating Economic Blueprint into Growth” and has been scheduled for June 25 to 27.

In a statement, ZNCC said the topics to be discussed include structural economic enablers — current state, constraints and the way forward and financing options for business in difficult times.

Other topics include revising the country’s education system to suit the emerging economy and corporate governance in Zimbabwe’s public and private sector.

Most of the topics seek solutions to the economic challenges the country is currently facing.

Bulawayo faces serious deindustrialisation with over 100 companies having shut down while more continue to be liquidated and some placed under judicial management.

The city industries need an estimated $400 million investment in the short term and close to $1 billion in the long term to fully recapitalise.
