Competitions are set to be held at various schools around the country in preparation for the national final which will be held in Harare on July 18 to 20.

National Association of Secondary School Heads (Nash) vice-head in charge of soccer Arthur Maphosa confirmed that they will start the competitions next week.

“We will start with the schools competition then move on to the districts and the winners of the provincial championship will play in the national championships. The draw for the national championships will be held at Chemhanza High School on Friday,” he said.

Wedza’s Chemhanza High School were the winners of last year’s edition after beating Howard High School 3-1.

Maphosa said Delta Beverages had increased the sponsorship package from $98 000 last year to $103 000.

The winner of the boys’ competition will get $6 500 while the runners-up will get $5 000 which is $500 less than last year’s amount.

Quarter-finalists are set to receive $1 500 up from $1 200 while the fair play prize has been cut to $1 000 from $1 500.

Individual prizes are still pegged at $100.

Participants at the national final will get the chance to be selected into the Copa Coca-Cola Dream Team which will take part in an international competition.
