SHURUGWI Town Council has acquired a fire tender in a bid to improve disaster preparedness. The fire tender was in Gweru yesterday where council officials registered it.

OWN CORRESPONDENT Council chairperson Fungai Makore said the fire tender would assist in attending to disasters in and around the mining town. He said the fire tender was purchased at a cost of $53 000.

“The fire tender will go a long way in responding to fire outbreaks as well as accidents and other disasters in and around Shurugwi,” Makore said.

Last week, Chief Ndanga of Shurugwi told a provincial Environmental Management Agency on indaba in Gweru that veld fires were a cause for concern in the Midlands province and made a plea for government intervention.
