This was Hwange’s second loss of the season, but they remained on top of the log with 22 points, the same as How Mine, who drew 0-0 with FC Platinum at Luveve Stadium and third-placed Dynamos who beat Highlanders 1-0.

Chimenya pounced in the 19th minute to beat veteran goalkeeper Timothy Sibanda from an Ishmael Lawe cross.

Chicken Inn’s plan to “park the bus” the entire match frustrated the hosts while referee Philani Ncube was on top of the game, denying Hwange’s appeals for alleged handballs time and again. Hwange coach Nation Dube was infuriated at Ncube’s handling of the match.

“The referee denied us legitimate penalties and he seemed like a man on a mission. How can a Bulawayo team bring their own referee?” Dube queried.

Chicken Inn coach Joey Antipas said his charges stuck to the game plan.
