Nyamambi died on Tuesday morning at Victoria Falls Hospital after a long illness.

MDC-T Matabeleland North interim provincial chairperson Thembinkosi Sibindi confirmed Nyamambi’s death yesterday.

“It’s true that he died yesterday (Tuesday) at Victoria Falls Hospital where he had been admitted,” he said.

“He was admitted on Monday after his health deteriorated. He had not been feeling well for quite some time.

“He’s our former Victoria Falls district chairperson and councillor for Ward 1.”

Sibindi said burial arrangements were underway and indications were he would be buried at his rural home in Mberengwa.

“His relatives are making arrangements to ferry his body to Mberengwa,” he said.

“At the moment mourners are gathered at house Number 1642 in Chinotimba suburb.”

Nyamambi had been arrested several times by the police for his political activities.

In October 2011, he was arrested after arms of war were discovered at his home in Chinotimba high-density suburb.

An AK 47 assault rifle and a full magazine were discovered at his home, but he said the weapons had been planted by his political rivals.

In October last year, Nyamambi together with Ward 11 councillor Edmore Zhou were arrested for celebrating the party’s by-election victory in Ward 9 by driving through the area in a small convoy of cars.

They were charged with public nuisance.
