According to an eyewitness, Tawurai Moyo, the two vehicles were travelling towards the same direction when the accident happened.

“The truck driver was in the inner lane and changed lanes after spotting a colleague across the road.

“The kombi, which appeared to have been speeding, rammed into the truck and veered off the road. Its left wheels were trapped in the drainage tunnel leaving the right wheels suspended,” said Moyo.

“The kombi was carrying schoolchildren and few adults but all passengers escaped unhurt.”

Another eyewitness, Lawrance Vutika, said he saw children coming out of the kombi through the windows with others crying.

The driver of the truck, Jack Dube, said he had indicated that he was changing into the outer lane and suddenly heard a loud bang.

“When l moved into the outer lane, l heard a big bang. I realised that l had been hit by a kombi and stopped. The kombi was over speeding,” Dube claimed.
