Cassper Nyovest: Most talked about SA rapper

It is without a doubt that Cassper Nyovest has had an incredible year with multiple hits, international collaborations, endorsement deals, and number one hip-hop album for consecutive weeks on iTunes.

JOHANNESBURG – It is without a doubt that Cassper Nyovest has had an incredible year with multiple hits, international collaborations, endorsement deals, and number one hip-hop album for consecutive weeks on iTunes.

It’s all thanks to his certified Gold selling debut album Tsholofelo.

Before Gusheshe, Doc Shebeleza and Phumakimi South Africans barely knew the self-proclaimed “sexy chubby n!gga” but now he’s not only the talk of town but a household name.

Trace Urban sat down with Cassper for an exclusive interview on Guest Star in an attempt to summarise his accolades, fame and success to date in 15 minutes.

One of the first things Cassper was quick to admit to was the fact that all he ever wanted to be was famous.

“To be honest, growing up, all I ever wanted was to be famous. Whether it was going to be through music, football or whatever I wanted to be famous and now I’m here,” the friendly rapper said.

“But besides all of that, music has always been a passion of mine and I can’t imagine myself doing anything else.”

Apart from local success, Nyovest is slowly dominating music charts outside of South Africa and he recently collaborated with two international artistes DJ Drama and Talib Kweli.

“I’ve been blessed to have worked with two great international artists over a space of two weeks. To cut the long story short, I met Talib, he loved my Doc Shebeleza track, we went to the studio to record the remix and before he left the country we filmed the video.”

Nyovest tells us that something similar happened with DJ Drama with whom he now has a new track and video with, titled Ghetto.

It’s been a great year for the 24-year-old rapper, but there has also been some negative things such as the “childish yet entertaining beef” with fellow rapper AKA, but he’s over that now.

“Man, I’m just focusing on myself right now. At first I entertained the whole thing, but now I’m just all about succeeding at what I do and I’m not trying to get involved in any kind of beef. It’s just all about me, the music and my fans right now.”

Nyovest told us he’s working on a few more collaborations set for release in the new year and most likely with his two favourite artistes from Nigeria, Wizkid and Davido.
