Tuskers eye double over Eagles

MATABELELAND Tuskers will be hoping to complete a memorable double over rivals Mashonaland Eagles when the two teams clash in a four-day Logan Cup encounter at Queens Sports Club starting this morning.

The Bulawayo-based franchise will start the match as slight favourites after their slender three-wicket win against the same opponents in a low-scoring Pro 50 Championship match at the same venue on Sunday.

Chasing a measly 126, Tuskers stuttered on the way, but were led by team captain Godwill Mamhiyo’s 45 with nearly 10 overs to spare.

Tuskers were struggling at sevens for three in the fourth over, rocked by Trevor Garwe’s double strike before Mamhiyo’s crucial knock.

Despite losing seven wickets in all, Tuskers collected four more points after romping to their third consecutive Pro 50 Championship win.

Put in to bat, Eagles were skittled in 40,4 overs as John Nyumbu took four wickets for 19 runs after Brian Vitori removed the openers. cricket_bat_and_ball

Eagles will be hoping for a much better performance with the bat if they are to turn the tables on their rivals in the Logan Cup match.

Meanwhile, in the other Logan Cup match, reigning champions Mountaineers will also be hoping to complete a double over their opponents when they take on MidWest Rhinos at Kwekwe Sports Club.

Mountaineers bowlers, led by Shingi Masakadza’s three for 45, restricted MidWest Rhinos to 194 before Stuart Matsikenyeri’s second List A hundred helped them canter to a six-wicket win in 38 overs.
