A MAN suspected to be mentally ill from Kariangwe area in Binga allegedly beat his mother with an unidentified object all over the body leading to her death five days later at Binga District hospital, a magistrate heard.

One Mudenda (23) was not asked to plead to murder when he appeared before Binga resident magistrate Stephen Ndlovu.
It emerged in court that Mudenda has a history of mental problems and the magistrate remanded him in custody to December 18.
He also ordered that he be examined by two medical doctors to ascertain the state of his mental faculties.
Prosecutor Bruce Maphosa told the court that on November 25 this year between 6pm and 8pm, Mudenda allegedly attacked his mother Maria Mudenda several times all over the body with an unidentified object.
Following the assault, she was ferried to Binga district hospital where she died on November 30.
This led to Mudenda’s arrest.
