AFTER having been postponed three time the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo half marathon will be held next Monday on Unity Day with preparations for the competition having started.

“The race is on December 22. The prize money will remain unchanged. We are going to meet with the organisers this week,” she said.PPC-33-Miller-UltaMarathon

Matabeleland South long-distance runner Nkosiyazi Sibanda won the inaugural challenge last year crossing the line in 1hr 5mins 42secs to walk away with $500 beating veteran long-distance runner Wirimayi Zhuwawo who came second in the men’s category.

In the women’s category, Olivia Chitate of ZRP Harare took home $500 after completing the 21km road race in 1hr 23mins, 35secs.

The marathon aimed at perpetuating the legacy of the late Vice-President Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo, started from Doctor Joshua Nkomo Museum in Matsheumhlophe which is the late vice-president’s residency, to his house in Pelandaba.

The race was first postponed after it clashed with the Econet Victoria Falls marathon before being cancelled again on November 1 as most athletes had registered for another event on November 9.
