Brothers Jimmy and Tawanda Tirivavi and Makia Magombedze, a security guard, were left with life threatening injuries and scars on faces after being allegedly hit and stoned by Martin Rusike (35).

Rusike on Wednesday appeared in court facing a charge of attempted murder.

Prosecutor Moreblessing Rusere told the court that on November 16, the accused and the Tirivavi brothers were playing pool at Jazire shops in Masvingo, before a misunderstanding arose at around 11pm.

The accused became violent and headed for a generator, which provided lighting for the shop, forcing Magombedze to investigate the cause of the commotion.

The court heard that Magombedze was struck on the face by a machete and when the Tirivavi brothers tried to restrain Rusike, they were hit by stones on the face and left with deep scars.

Fellow revellers at the joint in Mucheke high-density suburb apprehended Rusike and handed him to the police.

However, Rusike said they were fighting and he was acting in self-defence.

Magistrate Judith Zuyu remanded Rusere out of custody for continuation of trial.
