Peter Phiri (36) of Beitbridge, who is on the run, stabbed his former wife Sikhathele Mpofu several times in the body and left an okapi knife lodged in the neck above the collar bone.

Matabeleland South police spokesperson Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed that Phiri was an ex-convict who had just been released from prison.

“Phiri was recently released from prison after serving a charge of domestic violence involving the deceased wife,” Ndebele said.

The latest revelations about Phiri’s brush with the law have raised speculation that he was on a revenge mission when he killed his wife for having him locked behind bars.

Ndebele urged members of the public, who may have information relating to the whereabouts of Phiri, to come forward or call hotline number 0284 20139 or send a WhatsApp message on 0771 443 373 or report to nearest police station.
