Speaking to Southern Eye Lifestyle, Alliance Française director Marie-Hélène Prédhom said those that attend the event would feel like they are in France.

“We are inviting people to come to the Alliance Française on Saturday to celebrate all things French. Visit France for a day without having to leave Bulawayo. You don’t need to be able to speak a single word of French to visit, but we can’t guarantee you won’t walk away knowing a few words to impress your friends,” Prédhom said.

The event starts at 10am and will include a breakfast of pain au chocolat (pastry filled with delicious chocolate) or croissants and jam accompanied by freshly brewed French coffee and a sampling of cheeses with freshly made French baguettes.

“We will have a variety of free activities for both children and adults. You can learn to order your wine in French while we keep the children occupied with learning French songs.

“There will be an opportunity to learn about classes that are offered through the Alliance Française. These classes are for school age children as well as adults that may want to learn a language for business or travel.

“You will also have an opportunity to learn about the many programmes offered by the Alliance Française to its members. There is a resource centre you are invited to explore which offers French movies with subtitles, magazines, newspapers and books,” Prédhom said.

Alliance Francaise offers a variety of cultural events to Bulawayo residents such as Francophone Week, a singing competition, international entertainers and speakers on environmental issues.
