FORMER Highlanders coach Mark Mathe’s children were injured in an accident that killed one person and injured 18 along Hyde Park Road in Mpopoma on Monday.
Mathe yesterday confirmed that his children were admitted at Mpilo Central Hospital.
“They were involved in an accident on Monday,” he said.
“Denzel had a cut in the head and his hand was injured, but he is up and about now. Darren is still being monitored at Mpilo. He sustained elbow and shoulder injuries.”
Mathe said both Denzel (14) and Darren (7) were recovering.
“We thank God that they are doing well,” he said.
Mathe is former Highlanders coach whose contract ended in December 2014 and was not renewed by Highlanders. Bongani Mafu has since taken over from him.
The accident occurred when a Delta Beverages-owned Nissan NP 200 collided with a commuter omnibus along the Magwegwe West route.
The Delta vehicle driver is alleged to have tried to beat a red traffic light and collided with the commuter omnibus, resulting in the public transport vehicle overturning and throwing some passengers out.
The injured were taken to Mpilo Central Hospital.
