The man (name withheld to protect the victim) appeared before the Western Commonage provincial magistrate Willard Mafios Moyo, where he was charged for contravening Section 65 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act. He pleaded guilty to the charge and was remanded in custody to March 3.
“I was demon possessed when all this happened,” he said.
“I do not remember what exactly happened. I apologise to my family. However, I blame demons for this kind of act because I wouldn’t have done it in my normal senses.”
Prosecutor Mufaro Mageza told the court that on January 28, the man realised that his grandmother had fallen asleep and followed his cousin to her bedroom, where he raped her.
The girl who was deep in sleep woke up after feeling her cousin’s weight on top of her.
“I asked him what he was doing after having noticed he was totally naked in my bedroom,” she said.
