Imbizo, Khami, Mzilikazi, Reigate and Bulawayo Central will do battle to select a provincial team to compete at the South Eastern College in Masvingo in the inter-provincial championships on March 19 and 20.

Provincial head in charge (athletics) for Bulawayo province, Peter Gambiza, said they were making final preparations for the competitions.

“We are gathering the equipment that was used during the African Union Sports Council Region 5 Under-20 Youth Games so that we utilise it.

“Tomorrow (today) we would be having a technical meeting at Northlea High then we will go to the venue to inspect the grounds. We are busy running around to set everything in order,” Gambiza said.

Gambiza indicated that heats, field events and some few track events would be conducted on Thursday finishing off on Friday.

Petra High dominated the Imbizo district inter-schools at Nust three weeks back while Luveve High School won the Reigate inter-schools at White City Stadium two weeks back.

Christian Brothers College’s Hobokoe Mathibela (Imbizo) is expected to shine in the competitions as he hauled eight gold medals in all the events he took part in the Under-17 boys.

Gambiza said the competitions would be stiff as districts have been working hard preparing.

“We are going to have a competitive event this time that will assist us select a good team that will represent us well and bring home medals at provincial level in Masvingo,” he said.
