MATABELELAND Under-19 Rugby development side is leaving for Botswana tomorrow where they will take part in the David Livingstone Memorial Trophy tournament at Livingstone Kolobeng College (LKC) in Gaborone from Friday to Sunday.

The David Livingstone Memorial tournament is an annual event registered under the Botswana Rugby Union.

It is held in memory of the famous missionary David Livingstone. Matabeleland Under-19 development side and Plumtree High School are invited as guest teams scheduled to play against schools from Botswana.

Matabeleland Rugby Football Board development officer Ruben Kumpasa, head coach for Matabeleland Under-19 development side said they were invited to the tournament because Botswana and Zimbabwe had good relations .

“This is a local tournament for Botswana, and we have been invited as a guest team because we share good relations with the country,” he said.

“As rugby unions, we are trying to give players something to play for. We aim to share ideas and skills at the same time building strong relationships and ties between the two countries.”

LKC rugby manager Feddy Mutenheri echoed the same sentiments saying : “. . . this event is meant to develop our players and provide healthy competition among the schools”.

Under -19 Matabeleland Development Team Tanaka Xaverio, Tinashe Xaverio, Innocent Ncube, Willard Gwekwerere, Tinashe Kaitano, Emmanuel Zangari, Mcdonald Garufu, Buzile Dube, Takunda Katsukunya, Anrique Ndhlovu , Howard Zuze , Kgositsile Ndebele, Nathaniel Moyo, Brandon Salanje and Velempini Dlelo.
