The villagers have asked traditional leaders to conduct a cleansing ceremony to exorcise the area of evil spirits after a number of people disappeared while others were later found dead with their bodies decapitated.

Chief Masuku said one man disappeared three years ago and his bones were found this year in Matopos National Park.

A woman from the area also disappeared three years ago and her bones were found last month in Bhazha area. Last week, villagers allegedly recovered the remains of another middle-aged man who went missing last year from Makubili area in Ward 17.

Chief Masuku told Southern Eye yesterday that he had been petitioned by Ward 17 village head Mora Dube to intervene and order a cleansing ceremony to exorcise the area.

“Mora wrote a letter requesting that I assist her to find an Inyanga to come and cleanse the area after a lot of people disappeared in suspected ritual killings.

People who have been staying in South Africa came back home with dangerous cultures and I suspect that they are the ones behind these uncalled acts in my area,” Chief Masuku said.

“I have tasked (Zimbabwe Healers’ Association president David) Ngwenya to assist us get an Inyanga who will perform a cleansing ceremony.”
