Tijasi Tanikwa (48) and Sophi Moyo (29) on Tuesday separately appeared before Masvingo magistrate Langton Ndokera facing fraud charges, which they both denied.

Tanikwa was released on $100 bail while Moyo’s bail application is set to be heard today.

The State alleges that sometime last week the suspects misrepresented themselves as college registrars and collected various amounts from prospective students and issued them with fake receipts. Some of the alleged victims were asked to deposit their money in Moyo’s bank account.

The offence came to light when the college opened but the “students” were not on the list of those whose applications for enrolment had been accepted.

They produced the fake receipts to authorities, leading to the pair’s arrest.
