Rudo Neshamba’s early goal powered the Mighty Warriors to Rio2016 as they won 1 0 at Rufaro Stadium on Sunday to qualify on away goals rule following a 2/1 defeat in Cameroon two weeks earlier.

It was history in the making as the Mighty Warriors became the first ever Zimbabwean football team to qualify for a global football tournament.

“We got into this match seeking a win and we got just that. Our game plan of scoring early and avoiding conceding worked well for us,” Muzongondi said.

“It is unbelievable. I am yet to come to terms that it happened. Dreams come true. Most people never thought we would achieve this because we were playing against Cameroon. They were physically superior to us but we managed to contain them.

This is the best game we have ever played. But a look at the first leg will tell everyone about our determination. We scored first in Cameroon and that away goal helped us.”

The Mighty Warriors’ victory summed them up as the most successful Zimbabwean football team and attracted the attention of the Zimbabwean government which has promised to support them team all the way to Rio de Janeiro.
