Addressing journalists yesterday during a media tour organised by the National Aids Council, Shoko, however, said he was unsure if the high condom uptake translated to their use.

“Yes, the uptake of condoms is massive, about 5 000 condoms are distributed monthly at the university, although we can not guarantee their usage,” he said.

“ARV uptake at this university is very low compared to what the media want to believe … our students come from different communities and it is their right to get ARV’s at the university and we will not deny them.”

MSU student, Simba Ndeme, said the negative publicity the university was getting had caused most students to have difficulties getting places for industrial attachment.
