AFMIZ to upgrade facilities Manhinga Village

Catherine Madawo, the wife of the church’s leader Bishop Amon Madawo, said she was following in the footsteps of the church mothers who led before her to upgrade Manhinga Village Orphanage

THE Apostolic Faith Mission in Zimbabwe (AFM) Church is set to upgrade facilities at Manhinga Village by installing flood lights and upgrading toilets to enhance child safety.

The project is supposed to improve the current condition at the orphanage by installing flood lights around the premises, renovate existing toilets and redo the thatched roof at the village.

In an interview with NewsDay, Catherine Madawo, the wife of the church’s leader Bishop Amon Madawo, said she was following in the footsteps of the church mothers who led before her to upgrade Manhinga Village Orphanage.

“With the help of the ladies in the AFM, the next project is to improve the current state of Manhinga Village, the AFM Orphanage, by installing flood lights around the premises for the children’s safety. We want to upgrade the existing toilets and finally redo the entire thatched roof at the Village,” she said.

“I am following the footsteps of the church mothers who led the way before by looking after the orphans at Manhinga Village and the widows in the AFM.”

Madawo believes it was her duty to help widows and orphans as it was written in the Bible.

“1 Timothy 5:3 instructs us to look after widows and Psalms 68:5-6 tells us that God is the Father of orphans and the Champion of widows. If the issue of widows and orphans matters to God, then it must matter to me too. Fulfilling this duty not only honours God but also meets the basic needs of our fellow brethren,” Madawo said, adding that she was dedicated to serving God and his People.

“My drive to do this work comes from my desire to serve God and to serve His people. I believe it is part of the calling that God put upon my life,” Madawo said.

Through her faith, she was recognised as the Outstanding Woman in Faith-based Leadership of the Year at the recent Megafest National Women’s Awards 2025 held recently in Harare by Megafest Holdings.

The church leader is focused on empowering women in developing entrepreneurial skills to become financially capable and develop leadership skills through workshops.

“I am also focused on empowering the women to develop their entrepreneurial skills and income generating skills. I also want to help the women leaders in the AFM to develop leaderships skills, and this will be done through hosting a number of workshops and seminars,” Madawo said.

“Finally, we are hoping to hold the first regional ladies’ prayer conference at Rufaro in September this year where our focus will be on praying for our nation, strong marriages, and united families as well as seeing an end to the drug abuse pandemic plaguing our country.”
