HARARE, Apr. 7 (NewsDay Live) – Journalist and Heart & Soul head of news, Blessed Mhlanga was on Monday denied bail by Harare magistrate Donald Ndirowei, extending his nearly six-week prison stay.
Mhlanga’s lawyer, Chris Mhike applied for bail, for the third time, citing changed circumstances
He had submitted that the time sought by the State to complete investigations had lapsed and that the National Prosecuting Authority had declined to prosecute a similar matter involving Owen "DJ Olla" Madondo.
But Ndirowei said his court could not be influenced by a mere press release or statement from the NPA.
He also said that the State has shown progress in giving Mhlanga a trial date. He postponed the matter to April 22 for a possible trial date.
