Government accelerates decentralisation of SEZs

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services permanent secretary Ndavaningi Mangwana said expanding economic activity at provincial and community levels was central to government's development agenda.

MARONDERA, Jul 18 (NewsDay Live) - Government says it is accelerating the development of provincial economic hubs through decentralised Special Economic Zones (SEZs), a strategy aimed at transforming rural and provincial areas into competitive investment, manufacturing and value-addition centres.

Addressing journalists during a tour of key  SEZs projects in Mashonaland East province this week, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services permanent secretary Ndavaningi Mangwana said expanding economic activity at provincial and community levels was central to government's development agenda.

Journalists visited commercial blueberry farms, Proton Bakeries in Marondera and the Kunzvi Dam project, now 74% complete and expected to become a major water source for Harare, highlighting the province's growing role in driving Zimbabwe's economic transformation.
