A MISUNDERSTANDING between two stepbrothers turned fatal after the other one was axed for causing the collapse of his brother’s marriage.
Matabeleland South police spokesperson, Inspector Chiratidzo Dube, said the incident occurred on June 12 at Rathanyana village, Matobo in Matabeleland South province.
“The now deceased, Gift Dube (20), had been living with his stepbrother, Xolani Dube (36), after Xolani separated from his wife over unresolved domestic issues,” Dube said.
The two were co renting accommodation at a house in Ratanyana, Dube said.
Dube said tensions escalated when Xolani accused Gift of being the cause of his failed marriage.
“In a fit of rage, Xolani stormed out of the house, only to return armed with a wooden axe handle,” Dube said.
“He then struck Gift on the head with the wooden handle, inflicting severe injuries.”
Dube said other tenants tried to rush Gift to hospital, but he passed away along the way.
“Overcome with guilt, Xolani handed himself over to the police,” Dube said.
“We encourage people to seek third party intervention from family elders, pastors, or even the police before things spiral out of control.”
