
A 22-YEAR-OLD man from Gokwe allegedly strangled a teenager to death after the former had offered to help the latter carry a sack of maize to the grinding mill.
Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko yesterday confirmed the tragic incident which occurred on Wednesday in village Muvi under Chief Nemangwe in Gokwe South.
“Police in Gokwe are investigating a case of murder, where a 22-year-old man strangled a 13-year-old boy who was going to a grinding mill with his siblings,” Mahoko said
“The now-deceased Brian Wurawa, aged 13 was in the company of his four young siblings on their way to the grinding mill when they met the suspect, who hails from the same area.
“Arnold Muchenjekwa asked to assist Brian carry his sack of maize and after a short distance, he (Muchenjekwa) put the maize bag down.”
Mahoko said when Wurawa asked Muchenjekwa to return his sack, the latter refused and, instead, strangled the minor.
“The (deceased’s) siblings witnessed the incident from a distance and ran away before alerting the grinding mill attendant,” he said.
“The grinding mill attendant alerted other villagers who apprehended Muchenjekwa before handing him over to the police.

Mahoko said the body of the deceased was taken to Gokwe South District Hospital for a post-mortem.
