THE Bulawayo City Council has warned residents against undertaking construction work without approval.
According acting town clerk Tennyson Mpunzi's statement, the directive was in line with Statutory Instrument (SI) 56 of 2025.
“The City of Bulawayo would like to advise residents and stakeholders that in terms of chapter 2, part 1, section 5 of the Model Building By-Laws of Zimbabwe, no building work should be undertaken unless and until plans have been submitted and approved by the local authority,” Mpunzi said.
He said in line with the SI amending the Architects Act [Chapter 27:01], such plans should be prepared by architects, technologists, technicians and draftpersons who are registered with the Architects Council of Zimbabwe.
He called on developers, residents and stakeholders to verify the status of persons or entities preparing their plans in line with the SI before the plans are forwarded for submission to council.
