Masvingo welcomes success of Indonesia’s Artificial Insemination program

MINISTER of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution in Masvingo, Ezra Chadzamira, has hailed the Artificial Insemination (AI) program as a success, a grant offered by the Indonesian government to Zimbabwe.

During a courtesy visit by Indonesian Ambassador Arief Hidayat, Chadzamira expressed appreciation for the cooperation, saying, "This project proved effective and we highly appreciate the partnership between our countries. It aligns with Zimbabwe’s Vision 2030, aiming for a prosperous, inclusive, and sustainable middle-income economy."

Hidayat, is on a monitoring and evaluation mission with experts from his country and results on the ground are encouraging as they shows that nearly 90% of tests on visited farms were efficient, with 27 cattle pregnant at Chimombe farm alone.

"The 2024-2025 program was a success, and I plan to advocate for an extension. As demand for Indonesian frozen semen grows, we will explore a business MOU between the two countries to waive duties, making it more affordable for farmers," he said.

Indonesia exports frozen semen to over 8 countries, a method that curbs livestock diseases.

Several Zimbabwean vets trained in Indonesia led the program alongside Indonesian experts, boosting local capacity.
