A 43-year-old landlady from Vumbachikwe mine in Gwanda has been sentenced to 17 years in prison after being convicted of aggravated indecent assault against a four-year-old minor.
The offence occurred in late November 2025, when the woman coerced the child into sexual activity.
The abuse came to light after the victim attempted to imitate the act with his seven-year-old brother.
Alarmed, the children’s mother and a neighbour questioned him, and he disclosed that the landlady had previously subjected him to similar abuse.
The matter was promptly reported to the police, leading to the offender’s arrest.
A medical examination of the minor was conducted, and the findings were presented in court as evidence.
“Aggravated indecent assault is a grave offence under Zimbabwean law,” the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) said in a statement.
