A 50-year-old paedophile from Gokwe has been sentenced to 20 years in prison following his conviction on two counts of sexually abusing an 11-year-old child.
The convict, whose identity was concealed to protect the identity of the victim, was found guilty under Section 65 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act at the Gokwe regional magistrates’ court on two counts of rape.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, in 2024 at Chief Chireya area, Gokwe North, the victim was tending to goats when the offender approached her.
He allegedly gave her snacks and biscuits before ordering the minor to lie down.
He then raped her once before threatening her not to tell anyone about the abuse.
The abuse came to light on February, 18, this year after the victim’s brother caught the accused raping the minor.
