Zvishavane town is poised for a state-of-the-art residential area following the injection of US$18 million for a housing project targeting 2500 stands, Southern Eye has learnt.
Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution minister, Owen Ncube said the Sharon Valley Smart City residential project was in line with the government’s policy of providing standard shelter to citizens.
“I feel greatly honoured to address you on my maiden tour of the great US$18 million phase one of Sharon Valley Smart City housing project comprising 500 fully serviced stands out of the targetted 2 500, which supports the National Development Strategy 2 pillar of infrastructure development and housing,” Ncube said during a tour.
“Furthermore the project showcases the indelible footprint of the second republic’s pursuit of a strong, modern and resilient infrastructure backbone that underpins GDP (gross domestic product) growth as we march towards the attainment of a prosperous and empowered upper middle income society earlier than 2030.”
The Midlands minister commended the project for complying with government’s land development guidelines, showcased through provision of key infrastructure such as roads, sewer, water and power before allocation of residential, health, education, churches, fuel service stations, cemeteries, recreational facilities and shopping centres to applicants.
“Local authorities’ master plans should inform and guide developments in all areas,” Ncube said.
He said the government had put in place mechanisms to deal with land barons who dupe home seekers by illegally acquiring land and parceling it before putting in place appropriate basic developments such as roads, water and sewer.
