DeMbare Saul searching…as club ends Mablanyo reign

Chigowe replaced the fired Genesis Mangombe in August last year on an interim basis before the club took a gamble and appointed him as substantive head coach at the start of the season.

DYNAMOS' season has descended into more chaos after the club yesterday fired the entire technical team led by head coach Lloyd Chigowe, a day after they were beaten by Triangle.

The struggling Harare giants were beaten 2-0 away at Gibbo, which left them in 16th place on the log standings after 11 rounds of matches.

Chigowe replaced the fired Genesis Mangombe in August last year on an interim basis before the club took a gamble and appointed him as substantive head coach at the start of the season.

Mangombe is now the head coach at Triangle.

The firing of the Dynamos technical team  was announced in a statement by the club yesterday.

"Following a thorough review of the team's current performance and log standings, the club has resolved to take immediate action to restore its competitive edge," the club wrote. "To address the performance slump, the management has decided to: 1. Restructure the current technical team in its entirety following due process.

  1. Issue a full statement on the new structure by Wednesday, 14th May 2025. These measures aim to revitalize the team's performance and uphold the club's reputation."

Chigowe was deputised by Mark Mathe, while former Dynamos players Ronald Gidiza and Takesure Chinyama were also part of the backroom staff.

Dynamos have had a horrible start to the season, winning one game, drawing five and losing five.

They have scored one goal in that period, their worst start of the season in many years.

Many, though, believe Chigowe has been made a scapegoat in a system that has rotten from the top.

The club's management has been blamed for failing to support the coach in the transfer window.

In the end, Chigowe was forced to hold trials to replenish his squad that had been deserted by over a dozen key players.

Dynamos have reportedly drawn up a shortlist of candidates, but it is believed Saul Chaminuka, sacked a week ago as Kwekwe United coach, is the frontrunner to replace Chigowe.

This latest development in a chaotic season for DeMbare comes at a time when the club's supporters are planning a boycott of all the team's home matches to force the Moses Maunganidze-led executive to leave office.

Dynamos host Caps United in the big Harare Derby at Rufaro Stadium this Sunday, and the buildup to the match has been marred by the home supporters' threats to stay away.
