Kaindu makes BF return

Kaindu’s obvious mission will be to claim victory as he seeks the survival of DeMbare from relegation.

Coach Kelvin Kaindu makes a return to Barbourfields Stadium in two weeks’ time, this time in charge of fading Harare giants Dynamos against his former paymasters Highlanders.

Kaindu’s obvious mission will be to claim victory as he seeks the survival of DeMbare from relegation.

The two sides, both fighting the dreaded chop from the top league, clash in the highly anticipated fixture at Emagumeni, Bulawayo’s traditional home of football, where a massive crowd is expected to witness the potentially explosive tie.

They will clash again in a week after the Sunday tie in the semi-final of the Chibuku Super Cup at Rufaro.

The Zambian mentor was fired from Highlanders in June following a string of poor results.

He went on to join the Harare giants, where he has acquitted himself as Dynamos gradually extricates themselves from the jaws of relegation.

Both sides drew their weekend matches, with Highlanders remaining stuck position nine on the log tables with 34 points after a goalless stalemate with Herentals at Rufaro on Sunday.

Dynamos shared the spoils with Ngezi Platinum Stars in 1-1 draw on Saturday at the same venue.

Interestingly, Kaindu has managed five wins and two draws since joining DeMbare and he is yet to lose a match.

He was twice voted coach of the month for August and September.

Dynamos have sprung out of the relegation zone, now sitting on position 14 with 33 points, just two behind Highlanders.

Kaindu was in charge of Highlanders when the Bulawayo giants played a goalless draw at Rufaro in June, a few weeks before he was fired after losing to title-chasing Simba Bhora at BF, a win against Manica Diamonds at Sakubva and a goalless draw to Chicken Inn at home.

The Zambian gaffer replaced Saul Chaminuka, who was also relieved of his duties for poor results.

Kaindu first joined Highlanders as a coach in 2011, replacing Mkhupali Masuku, who had taken over from Egyptian Mohamed Fathi.

In the two years (2012 and 2013) that the Zambian coach was in charge of Highlanders, he failed to win the league title that has eluded Bosso for 19 years.

After a loss to ZPC Kariba at Hartsfield Rugby Ground in 2013, a match that saw violent skirmishes, Highlanders fell out with Kaindu, who went on to join Triangle late in 2014 but never played against Highlanders that year.

At the end of 2015, he entered into a deal with the now defunct How Mine.

In 2016, How Mine fell back-to-back to Highlanders in identical 2-0 score-line home and away.

Bosso kept their faith in Kaindu, a former player at the club and brought him back on board last year, where he ended the season on position six, without any silverware.

Four games remain to the end of the season for both Highlanders and Dynamos to manoeuvre themselves from the clutches of relegation.

After sacking Kaindu, assistant coach Try Ncube took over before he was also replaced by Pieter De Jongh, who made a return to Highlanders after he dumped the Bulawayo giants at the end of 2019 to join FC Platinum.
