The Bulawayo Arts Festival (BAF) began on Friday, May 30, and will continue until June 7, showcasing the city’s vibrant creative scene and extensive cultural heritage.

The theme for this year's festival is Celebrating Royalty Through Arts, which acknowledges Bulawayo’s rich traditions, heritage, and community spirit.

The festival opened on May 30 with the Comedy Meets Poetry show at Stanley Hall in Makokoba, Bulawayo’s historically significant communal hall.

The event, hosted by award-winning comedian Ntando Van Moyo, featured a mix of humor and poetic expression, with performances by Sgoqa the Poet, Sonkomose, Thaluso Da Poet General Lesley, Nkosi King, D’Jun, and Diana Nomsa.

Following this, the Kasi to Kasi Talent Show took place yesterday at the Amphitheatre.

Next Tuesday, the Small City Hall will host an Imbube Concert, a heartfelt tribute to African vocal artistry, heritage, and harmony.

The concert will feature renowned Zimbabwean a cappella groups including Amaqaqa, Indosakusa, Sunduza, Black Umfolosi, Great Stars, and Ijongosi, with Bongelani as the master of ceremonies.

Thursday will see the Imbokodo Concert at the Large City Hall, an all-female line-up dedicated to celebrating women in the arts.

BAF organisers announced via social media that this event would include performances by Novuyo Seagirl, Luchi Shiki, Matojeni Melo Maniacs, WeCreate, Lemoniq, and Albinism Konnect, with TKP hosting.

The festival will feature several exciting events in its final days.

On June 5 and 6, Stanley Square will host a kwaito/hip-hop music workshop.

The Amakhosi Concert is scheduled for June 6 at City Hall, beginning at 6 pm.

This event will showcase Bulawayo’s prominent male musicians, including award-winning artists such as Msiz’kay, Luminous, Asaph Afrika, Gog’ Bekezela, Guluva 7, Lamas Ellz, and Charles Mahlaba.

The concert is anticipated to draw a large crowd and create a lasting impression.

The festival will conclude on June 7 with two events — a youth concert at Nkulumane and a Tshibilika/Rhumba concert at the City Hall Car Park.
