Hwange’s new imbibing centre with a difference

CLUB Vergas, a newly opened leisure and entertainment place in Hwange has come to the  local residents’ rescue by drilling a borehole meant to service part of a suburb that has in the past faced intermittent water challenges.

Situated within Raylton suburb, the imbibing place  opened its doors to the public last Friday amid pomp and fanfare, and was graced by revellers who came as far as Victoria Falls, 100 km away.

Free WI-FI internet service is provided to what is described as “VIP” patrons and local residents living within the same neighbourhood are also beneficiaries to this gesture.

Public lighting has also been provided to a particular road adjacent to the night club.

The opening event was also graced by renowned Harare-based club disc jockeys namely MC Tyrateey, Sasha The Short Gun and DJ Raffuz.

DJ Mzoe and DJ Divara from Bulawayo and Hwange respectively were also part of the turntables cast.

In what has been described as a first in the coal mining town entertainment circles, closed circuit television cameras have been installed both inside and the exterior as part of efforts to curb male factors,  among other related social miscreants.

Mike Chinyoka, the joint’s director, said they have engaged local small to medium entrepreneurs to provide necessary products for the restaurant.

“We have already created a data base for  local suppliers who have expressed commitment in provision of broilers, traditional chicken, goat meat, millet, sorghum and beef among others,” said Chinyoka in a recent interview with Standard Style.

“Traditional dishes would be our main thrust as we seek to  play a pivotal role in gastronomy tourism and in the process strive to make the place a social and outdoor destination,”

As part of a broader corporate social responsibility initiative Club Vergas is in the process of identifying sporting disciplines to be sponsored at district up to national level.

“This is not all about imbibing proceeds, but a need to also plough back to the community  as evidenced by our endevour in provision of uninterrupted to  water supplies among others.”

Raylton is a low-density suburb situated in the National Railways of Zimbabwe concession area and some  households have in the past few years been experiencing water challenges due to aging pipes.
