Amen Sithole (26) of house number 962 Phakama, Gwanda, was convicted on his own plea of guilty to charges of assault by Gwanda magistrate Douglas Vakayi Chikwekwe.

Allegations against Sithole, as outlined by State prosecutor Mncedisi Dube were that on September 8, at Mtshabezi Mission Hospital, he had a misunderstanding with his girlfriend, Nomalanga Ncube (22), a student nurse at the hospital, after she received a phone call from her ex-boyfriend.

The misunderstanding led to Sithole assaulting Ncube on the face with open palms, kicking her with booted feet on the buttocks and twisting her arm.

Ncube was rescued by Nkululeko Ndlovu, a security guard at the hospital and the matter was reported to the police, leading to Sithole’s arrest.

Ncube sustained a swollen forehead from the assault.

The magistrate warned Sithole against assaulting women, saying he would be sent to jail should he commit a similar offence in future.
