According to Namibian media reports, Cheda was appointed to the bench with effect from August 1. Cheda’s departure from the Bulawayo High Court bench left the court with a compliment of only three judges, namely Justice Lawrence Kamocha, Justice Martin Makonese and Justice Andrew Mutema.

He joins fellow judge, Justice Nicholas Ndou who resigned from the bench in Bulawayo on December 31 to join the Nambian bench.

Before he left, Ndou was handling the treason case of Mthwakazi Liberation Front activists Paul Siwela (49), Charles Thomas (44) and John Gazi (54).

Justice Cheda (59) studied law at the University of Zimbabwe and served as a prosecutor and then as a magistrate before going into private practice in Bulawayo where he founded Cheda&Partners.
