Joice Ndebele of Nhekiyana village was not asked to plead when she appeared before Gwanda magistrate Sheila Nazombe facing murder charges on Friday, but was advised to apply for bail at the High Court.
Prosecutor Getrude Zvidzai told the court that Ndebele killed her baby while she was in deep sleep.
Allegations are that on September 27, Ndebele was sleeping with her baby when she woke up and strangled the toddler.
Zvidzai told the court that Ndebele, who appears to be mentally disturbed, is also very violent and would at times disappear for days without informing anyone about her whereabouts.
The offence was discovered in the morning by Ndebele’s grandmother who found the child dead.
Post mortem results revealed that the baby died of strangulation.
