Abdala Mwamadi (44) of Flat 6A Spitzkop in Gwanda pleaded guilty to charges of physical abuse when he appeared before Gwanda magistrate Olivia Mashava Mashaire.

He was remanded out of custody and will be sentenced today.

According to court documents the complainant’s stepmother in her statement, indicated that on February 18 at around 8pm the father gave his son a Grade 7 English question paper to write and he failed it.

The two then revised the paper together and the father ordered his son to rewrite the exam.

He got zero marks again and this did not go down well with his father who then ambushed his son as he was bathing, he took a rope and struck his son several times on the back.

He also beat him on the face and the boy sustained a swollen left eye as a result.

The next day the teacher noticed the injuries and on being asked what had happened, the child narrated his ordeal at the hands of his father.

Mwamadi told the court he had no intention of injuring his son.

“l want the best out of my son, so he can be able to fend for himself when I am gone. l thought I was showing him the way,” Mwamadi said.
